3 Types of apartment floor plans people love.

By Jared McKinney

The right floor plan can make all the difference when it comes to turning an apartment into your home. Whether you need an apartment that has plenty of room to entertain or one that allows you and your family to live and grow, there are so many choices out there.

Each family and individual will need a different type of floor plan for their needs. However, there are some types of floor plans that seem to do well and are the most popular option out there. Let’s take a closer look at some of the best apartment floor plans that people love the most.

What Makes a Good Apartment Floor Plan?

As you are looking for a new apartment, there are a lot of different options that you can choose from. While you may not think the floor plan is that important, you will find after living in it for a bit that it does not meet your needs. Some things to consider when choosing a floor plan include:

The Design Concept

A floor plan that is well-designed will have a clear concept that you can see throughout the whole place. They are sometimes obvious and sometimes more subtle. Either way, the concept is carried for the whole plan so you can see the flow.

There needs to be some order in the floor plan and this can be achieved through various design concepts. A grid system is popular as well as linear schemes and some symmetry throughout. Look to see if these are present in any of the floor plans you visit.

Defined Entrance

Another important element that is one of the better features in your floor plan is a defined entrance. This is the starting point to the home and it needs to be inviting for anyone who comes in the door. There are different ways to handle where the entrance is, but it must be designed in a way to create an immediate impression and to help make a transition into the home.

The views from the entrance will matter too. A good floor plan will not have views of the dining room, bathroom, or kitchen. Often it should go to a family or living room or even a big staircase in some areas.

Clear Orientation.

Orientation will be important when entering into the apartment. A good floor plan will be nice and organized in a way that the guests can quickly understand more about the layout and where everything will go, even if they have never been inside that place. Symmetry is one way to make this happen.

Flow:

Similar to the orientation, flow is going to help the floor plan be a bit easier to understand. This can help you to see if things fit together nicely and if they were thought through before being used in the apartment.

1 Bedroom Apartment Floor Plans People Love

Many apartment dwellers who go with a one-bedroom apartment are looking for something special when they make the decision. They want to have plenty of room to relax and unwind and even some space to entertain when others come over.

Many of these one-bedroom apartments will have the bedroom separated from the main living room area. This allows for a bit more privacy and some sound protection in case they want to keep those two elements separate. It is also common for many of these floor plans to include a little nook for an office, which can be nice as many are working from home.

2 Bedroom Apartment Floor Plans People Love

The floor plan for a 2 bedroom apartment does depend on the people who decide to live there. If it is a family, they often like to have the bedrooms close together so they can be near to the kids and will have the bedrooms separate from the living and entertaining areas to help with soundproofing in case the kids go to bed early.

The layout is often different if two or more roommates are sharing an apartment to keep costs down. In this case, the bedrooms may be on different sides of the apartment, rather than being close to one another. This helps both parties to have their own space and can make it feel like they have their own home, rather than being on top of each other.

These floor plans often include one bathroom, though those with two are becoming more prevalent. A nice kitchen and plenty of storage space are a must as are a larger living room for families and friends to hang out and entertain. A porch of some kind is another key feature that seems to do well.

3 Bedroom Apartment Floor Plans People Love

For a three bedroom apartment, it is common to see all of the rooms on one side, along with the bathrooms, and then all of the areas for entertaining, cooking, and the bath on the other. This helps to divide up the space and can prevent noise from keeping others awake in the home. The exact configuration of a three bedroom can vary, but they can all be lumped together on one side.

These homes have a lot of space to move around and to play. Those who choose to go with these apartments need space for their kids and even to work from home, so the living rooms can be large and some of the more popular options will also have a little nook or extra space for the kids to play.

Lots of light is common in these areas and you will find between one to three bathrooms depending on the location. A nice kitchen with plenty of space to make large meals is good and close proximity to parks and good schools are a must as well.

What Is a Good Size Apartment for My Needs?

There is no one-size fits all when it comes to choosing the right apartment for your needs. Everyone has a dream apartment in their heads, but this is not always the reality. Between budget constraints, location, and other factors, you will need to choose the right apartment based off that.

First, you need to consider how much room will fit you. One or two people can often do just fine in a one-bedroom apartment, though they may choose to go with something a little bigger. Families with four to five kids though will need to go for something a little bit bigger.

You also need to consider your budget. A family with five kids would probably love an apartment that has enough rooms for everyone, but that will get really expensive. They will most likely need to have some kids share bedrooms in order to fit with their budget constraints.

Consider the location as well. Do you want to be downtown so you can be near all the fun or are you more interested in being in a quiet neighborhood that has some good parks and schools? These can all come into play when choosing the right apartment for you.

Choosing Your New Apartment

Each individual and family will have different requirements when it comes to picking out the apartment that works the best for them. Looking through the different floor plans for each apartment will make a big difference and can help you find an apartment that you can call home.
