We sent a former property manager to investigate

The Plaza Museum District is a well maintained four story complex in two buildings, with an olive and tan stucco exterior. Building One surrounds a resort-style pool, with a lounge area, hot tub and towering palm trees. Building Two bends around a six story gated parking garage. The buildings are joined by a pedestrian sky way on the third floor. Pros include: The Plaza Museum District offers several well laid out floor plans, with nine-foot ceilings, open kitchens with breakfast islands, stainless steel appliances, ceiling fans and washer/dryers. Countertops in the kitchens and bathrooms are highly polished faux-granite. There are laminate floors in the kitchens and bathrooms. On the down side, while the six-story parking garage provides more than adequate covered parking, access from Building One is across the pedestrian sky way on the third floor. The distance is not far, however. The countertops are not granite. Tips: Fourth floor units have vaulted ceilings. Computer niches with built-in bookshelves are offered in some units. Wi-Fi is available in the business center and all common areas. Reserved parking is available for $30 per month.

“Don't Recommend, Safety Has Gone Downhill”

Crime and safety has become a major concern in this neighborhood. I do not recommend living in this complex. We've lived here for 2+ years and tried to be open-minded and positive, but it is impossible to ignore the increasing rates of crime. We're from NYC, so we are not unfamiliar with life in a big city, but the current situation here is out of control.

Just in the past week, I've had to call 911 after seeing a homeless person passed out on on the street two blocks away from the complex (mid-afternoon on a weekday); was accosted by a man screaming into my face while I was out with my toddler (again, in broad daylight), and heard about neighbors' apartments/cars broken into in our complex.

The complex's response to these incidents is lukewarm at best. The kind of security we need (24/7 security guard at gate, more security coverage at night 7 days/week, more cameras, etc) costs money, so I suppose it's not surprising that they are reluctant to implement it.

Do your research before moving here: join the Museum Park neighborhood on Nextdoor and read what the people who live in this area are saying.

I have friends living in many neighborhoods throughout central Houston, so I know that other apartments of comparable or better quality are available at comparable prices in safer areas.

Hermann Park
Great part of town - fairly new, moderately priced apartments which are close to 288 (easy to get into town) and next to Hermann Park (great for a walk/run). I lived here for a year and highly recommend the area.
