Warning About Property
For the love of all things holy, do not rent 90 Magoun Avenue in Medford.
I don't know how else to get this message out, but if you know anyone north of Boston/Cambridge looking for an apartment, PLEASE do not let them rent 90 Magoun Avenue. Here is a brief summary of our time in this horrid place:
The landlord lives in the building, and he is not just a jerk, but a harasser, a bully, and a liar. He spent a year terrorizing us, particularly my quiet and sadly unassertive boyfriend. "I love dogs," he chirps, but no, he hates dogs, and he hates our dog. "Have friends over! Have parties in the yard!" Don't. Just don't. Don't walk on the grass, don't laugh to loudly, don't walk down the stairs to meet the deliveryman at the door lest you be besodden with texts about how doing any of those things is the most annoying thing anyone has ever done to him. He's before woken me up from sleep at 11 pm to tell me to stop making noise. He is the master of the microaggression.
He smokes, both weed and cigarettes, and I sure hope you like those smells because they are in your apartment whether you like it or not.
Also he and his girlfriend routinely scream at each other, to the point that the cops have been called. Multiple times.
To make things better, the neighbors like to set off fireworks. Every night. That or they have firefights, I honestly don't know. Also there's an insane old man across the street who takes great joy in watching me carefully every morning as I leave for work, and once came over to let me know he'd been watching and knew I had a hard time unlocking the front door.
DO NOT LIVE HERE.

Good Old Wilson Square
I loved this area. It was close enough to walk to both Porter and Davis, but was out of the way. I frequented Tacos Lupita quite often, along with that Starbucks. I would gladly move back to the Ville.

Love this place!
Adorable house with front and back porch, backyard, sweet kitchen and pantry. Street is very cute, generally a great neighborhood. I'd recommend checking out for breakfast Soundbyte Cafe on Broadway as well as Johnny's. YUM.

Enjoyed proximity to so many different areas of Boston / Cambridge
We really enjoyed being able to walk everywhere on weekends, from the South End to the North End, Harvard Square, Back Bay and everywhere in between. The lack of local grocery stores made a car pretty important, however, we really loved the mix of people in our neighborhood and the ability to walk everywhere!

Green Street
This is a great location within 10 minutes walk to both Harvard and Central Squares. It is a quiet area and has ample street parking. There are bakeries, coffee shops, restaurants and banks all in close walking distance. The neighborhood is a good mix of families and students. Running/walking paths are available along the Charles River.

Fun, young area, although more happening in central, davis, and the city.

Davis Sq
Fun area but quite a hike from the city. Good, young vibe for people working in cambridge or going to tufts

Best house at Harvard. Fear the tree!

Some good relatively inexpensive apartments here. Lots of fun bars in central. Less expensive than living in the city, although you need to build in time for the commute (don't recommend if you have a finance or consulting job but otherwise it's great)

Great quiet street off Mass Ave
I lived in a house that had been divided into four units and was an AWESOME unit. The area itself is fairly quiet. Street parking is manageable -- we never had a problem finding parking within a couple blocks. This is within walking distance to both the Harvard and Central Square hubs of restaurants and bars. It's also really close to Cambridge Latin High School which has a grassy lawn and tennis courts, which are perfect if you have a dog or need a sunny place to lounge. I was at Harvard Business School, and it was an easy walk or bike over the river but I probably wouldn't live too much further away.
