We sent a former property manager to investigate

Northtowne Summit offers a unique spot in northeast Reno. With two entrances, one that passes several department stores, another that is gated and winds up a hill from a neighborhood, Northtowne is in a great place for commuters that want a cozy, homey spot. The amenities are above-par and the units are exceptionally large. Overall, there are many more positives than negatives. Pros include: The gym offers full workout opportunities with a variety of machines that vary from free weights to cardio. The apartments are spacious and the appliances and washer and dryers are very nice. The community room is relaxing and elegant and somewhat separate from the office, allowing for some privacy. On the down side, without very much extra room on the grounds besides walkways between apartments, there is not very much breathing room for the likes of children and pet owners besides the concrete parking lot. Unfortunately, only a third of the apartments have one of the great views this property offers, while the others are stuck with views of other apartment buildings. There are two entrances to the property and both feel somewhat awkward: the first passes behind a Party City and its loading area... read more

“Wow: I rated one star because you wouldn't let me do ZERO”

The staff turnover is so constant, something is going wrong at the office. Every month it is a new person. The staff is great, they just keep getting fired or quitting due to the circumstances. The apartments are beautiful, it's a great location, and most of the tenants are quite friendly. What I wish I would have know before I lived here was the reputation of the owners, that they are violating quite a few laws. And the fine print on their leases is Very Very Fine. They make it easy to move in, but pretty tough to get out. Lots of nonrefundable deposits, lots of extra charges. Maintenance guys are great!

“Crazy MEAN Crazy Or is it MEAN Crazy? OMG Stay away!”

I worked for Sandra Whitman in the past, and she also goes by Sally Diamond. I will help these people with their class action lawsuit. Everything they say is right - she harasses people. Look at the constant staff turnover; she is insecure and jealous (and seems to have blackmailed Jim House, the property owner), and the average new worker stays for about a month or so before she scares them away. She fights with vendors all the time, she only pays partial bills and then just harasses people so much they just take what they can get. She is using the business as a cover for something, but I am not sure what. Layers and layers of stuff going down there, I'm so glad to be away. Someone had asked me today about this place, and that's when I decided to check out the reviews. I just had to comment.

The main issue (as everyone else seems to have pointed out) is the unintelligent, unprofessional and trashy management. They refuse to help (even speak with you) regarding ANY issue. It's so unprofessional it's almost laughable. The obese woman (who I guess is a manager) prefers to hide in the back room and make the employees have you leave, saying they can't help you. Most of the employees themselves are very rude and also seem to lack basic skills required for their job.

That honestly should be enough to deter you, but if not there are many more issues. The front gate is constantly broken so people have their cars broken into and other possessions taken. The surrounding area itself is not the best, but I overlooked it, putting faith in having the gate and a fence with barbed wire around it (yeah, it’s that sketchy), but with the gate wide open most days and nights, it didn’t matter. Packages are placed in the ‘common area’ unsupervised, so things can easily be stolen. Cops are frequently in the complex responding to calls. The pool/spa is only open for a couple months and even then it is often closed for ‘repairs’, the 'gym' is dirty and filled with broken equipment. Appliances break and are rarely fixed (despite constant work orders). Ants in the kitchen all summer.

PRO: the maintenance men are very nice (when I see them walking around)

Seriously though, I wish I had known all this before moving here. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place.

FIRST I rated one star because you cannit rate with NO STARS! This place is an over priced nightmare over looking the biggest Ghetto in Reno.

The management is despicable bording criminal! If you are unfortunate enough to pay a premium for a "View" that premium includes the manager and her cronies fabricating lies to harass and to wrongfully evict whomever they set their sites on. It is their entertainment.

There is a large movement of current and former tenants seeking relief of a class action law suit. We are banning together to file complaints against their bonds, E & O Insurance and attempting to have their licenses to do business revoked. It will be an uphill battle but worth it to stop them.

“Worst Place I've ever lived!”

Management spends more time harassing tenants then maintaining a safe well kept complex. They takes weeks to respond to maintenance requests IF the respond at all. The entire complex is infested with ants throughout the kichen, bathrooms & I have even found ants in my bed! It is never secure the gates are ALWAYS broken. There are shootings and gun shots in the neighborhood daily, cars get broken into and so do the apartments. The manager picks out tenants to harrass, requires bogus inspections almost monthly. I can't wait to move out!!!!!

“Far from Impressed”

The management here is poor. The property is often left unsecure. They don't keep the walkways or the parking lot cleaned. They spend plenty of time putting BS notices on tenants doors for harassing unsubstantiated claims threatening fines. They do not respond to after hours maintenance emergencies. They demand access to your home for "Important Inspections" and are unwilling to make appointments. I took an entire day off work to simply have the AC filter changed @ 2:15PM. The gates only work 1/2 the time and are open and unsecured the other half.

The Pros...nice appliances, spacious front living area, walk in closet and large patio.
