The Villas at West Oaks is a great complex with lots of landscaping and trees that give a lush, garden-like feeling. The exteriors are stucco with coordinating hues such as brown, stone gray, beige and other elegant neutral colors. The variety of colors is well done and looks fresh. Pros include: The leasing office has polished, stained concrete floors and lots of amenities that residents can enjoy when the office is open. Large armchairs with plate glass windows overlooking a fountain and gorgeous pool provide relaxing seating. In a separate area, there are bar height tables, billiard and shuffle board tables with large screen televisions. There is also a medium sized media room and a business center that provides complimentary faxing, printing, Wi-Fi and computers to use. There is a large and well equipped fitness center that residents can use 24-hours a day. Behind the leasing office is a figure 8 shaped pool with a separate hot tub and lots of seating. There is even a sand volleyball court onsite. Interior units come standard with black kitchen appliances, including a microwave. A great touch is a home office section with a built in desk that is standard in all plans. Large walk in closets, high ceilings and oval tubs in the master bathrooms are provided. The interiors are unique, spacious and well designed. It is short drive from George Bush Park which has lots of space and sports fields and is walking distance to West Oaks mall. On the down side, the great perks in the leasing office cannot be rented for parties; all but the fitness center are only usable when the leasing office is open. First floor units have polished, stained concrete floors in the main living spaces. It’s well done but some may not like that style of flooring. The second and third floor units are carpeting with slate tile in the wet areas, kitchen and entryway. The “D” floor plan does not have an outdoor patio/balcony. There are some partially empty strip centers and generally run down commercial and retail businesses nearby. The Alief section of Houston can have issues with crime and poverty, but the access gate entry system helps provide security.
