City Guide for Apartments in Mesa
Although only fifteen miles from central Phoenix, Mesa is the third largest city in Phoenix and the thirty-eighth largest in the United States. Like the other communities of Phoenix’s southeast valley (such as Gilbert and Chandler), the area is best described as a suburban area with a focus on families. However, with advancements in its economy and business and the city’s focus on developing its urban core that description may only last for so long. Mesa ApartmentsMesa is located right outside of what is known as High Tech Highway, or Loop 101 Pima and Price Freeway Corridor. This area of Phoenix includes most of northern Phoenix with communities such as Scottsdale, Tempe, Glendale, Peoria and Downtown Phoenix and is where Phoenix’s high concentration of tech companies are located. And if you did not already know, Phoenix is relatively inexpensive for both business and living and has resulted as a destination for startups and tech-related companies. In fact, Apple is working on creating a $2 billion command center right in town. Besides tech, the education sector is one of the largest employers here. It makes sense that the third largest city in Phoenix that is known as being a suburban, family-focused community would require a large population of teachers and educators. However, education is not limited to only early education because the city hosts sixteen higher education facilities such as Arizona State University’s Polytechnic Campus, Arizona School of Health Sciences and Arizona School of Health Sciences Dental School. Students shouldn’t let the suburban vibe worry them about finding housing because there are large number of cheap apartments with all utilities included (it gets hot) throughout Mesa as well as studio apartments and homes for rent. A good strategy for students looking to find apartments would be to stay in the area between central Mesa and Tempe while the more expensive luxury apartments tend to be on the eastern side. Also, when compared to Phoenix’s other neighboring cities and communities, Mesa is one of the less expensive areas to rent for apartment searchers. Downtown Phoenix and Scottsdale are often referred to as the top-rated areas of Phoenix and even though they are a short drive from Mesa, you don’t have to leave home to have fun. The area is home to several golf courses such as the Royal Palms and Longbow Golf Club. Baseball fans will be happy to know that the city has created its own niche in the MLB with its Hohokam Stadium for spring training. While the last team to play was the Chicago Cubs, starting 2015 the Oakland A’s will be calling Mesa home for their spring training. Also, living here grants residents close proximity to Arizona wilderness with the Usery Regional Mountain Park right in Mesa’s backyard and much more just north east. And for the hot summers, Mesa is the closest city of Phoenix proper to the Theodore Roosevelt Lake. While there are many neighborhoods to choose from within Mesa, Dobson Ranch has received high reviews for its convenient, cozy and affordable community. It may not be the newest neighborhood (it was built in the 70s/80s), but the area has the safe suburban vibe most families look for, is inexpensive when compared to the newer neighborhoods popping up on Mesa’s east side, and is convenient for commuters. The neighborhood is known for its self-titled golf course, but also has many amenities such as Rhodes Junior High School and Franklin at Alma Elementary School, and very easy access to the highways, Fiesta Mall and Mesa Community College. Although the neighborhood is mostly comprised of homes, there are the occasional houses for rent as well as rental communities nearby with apartments for rent. For out-of-staters moving to Phoenix, you’ve probably heard that Phoenix gets pretty hot, but make sure you really consider the heat. The average highs in the summer clock in at around 105, so looking for an apartment with all the bills paid is a great way to save money.
